Tata Steel has managed to snap up a smaller catch, the Kolkata-based Rawmet Ferrous Industries. Tata Steel said it has entered into an agreement to acquire 100 per cent equity in Rawmet Ferrous Industries for an undisclosed sum. Rawmet has its registered office in Kolkata and ferro alloy plant near Cuttack in Orissa, comprising two 16.5 MVA semi-closed electric arc furnace with a 50,000 tonne high carbon ferro chrome capacity. The agreement was signed in Bhubaneshwar by Tata Steel and IMR Metallurgical Resources AG, which holds 66.46 per cent, Rawmet Commodities, with 12.48 per cent and other shareholders. Rawmet is in the process of setting up a ferro alloy plant along with a waste-based power plant and a coke oven battery at Anantapur village in Cuttack district.

Book-and-gift retail chain Landmark is busy chalking out plans for its Kolkata foray, whereby it proposes to open at least three large size retail outlets and a slew of smaller format stores across the city. The Chennai-based retail chain is eyeing prime properties in and around Camac Street - Theatre Road area, Salt Lake as well as in south Kolkata. Till recently, Landmark used to operate in Kolkata through a joint venture with FMCG major Emami.

CPM Leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sitaram Yechuri defended the actions of his commrade and West Bengal Cheif Minister and denied that the CM have admitted committing a 'Big Blunder' over the acquisition of land used for agriculture in Nandigram village. In an interview to a private TV channel, Yechuri insisted that the government didnt use force to take over land in Singur for the car project. Asked about reports where Bhattacharya is quoted as saying that the Nandigram violence happened "because of our mistake ... it was a big blunder", Yechuri snapped: "It was not said to journalists. They all picked it up from God knows where." On Singur, where land acquisition by the government led to a prolonged hunger strike by Trinamul Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, the CPM MP said the party had actually brought to the fore the question of compensation paid to farmers "to the national agenda".

The debacle of her recent release "Unns" hasn't dampened the spirits of national award-winning Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta. She is now eyeing big banners. "Unns" dealt with sanctity of marriage. Rituparna, who is a name to reckon with in the Bengali film industry, has bagged quite a few good Hindi films. She has just completed shooting for "Gauri- The Unborn", a passionate love story with a mysterious element that gives out a strong message. Her co-stars are Anupam Kher and Atul Kulkarni. Apart from that she has signed Kalpana Lajmi's untitled film, in which has Isha Koppikar will feature as a courtesan. Then her first English language flick "Hidden" is about to take off.
