Ganguly gets new job

Former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly who recently retired from international cricket after 20 years of sporting career has been offered a new job.
Ganguly has been nominated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Technical Committee. The panel headed by Sunil Gavaskar also has former cricketeres like Chetan Chauhan, Kris Srikkanth etc as members. --MP
Pilots escape IAF aircraft mishap

An IAF Mig 23 trainer aircraft crashed on monday afternoon in West Bengal while on a routine training mission. However both the pilots escaped from the mishap unhurt through safe ejection.
The aircraft which took off from Hashimara air base in Jalpaiguri district has crashed 10 minutes later at the east Hashimara area. This is the second such mishap involving IAF fighter planes in the recent past. --MP
Assam warns WB govt

Assam governmnet has alerted West Bengal of possible terror threats, particularly on trains passing via Assam.
In the wake of fresh terror attack warnings, security has been tighetend across the State especially in the capital city of Kolkatta. "Delhi-bound trains from Assam running through north Bengal were being searched, besides platforms, after the West Bengal government received an alert notice from Assam about a bomb threat to such trains," IGP --MP
Mosquito borne diseases on a rise

Mosquito related diseases are alarmingly increasing in several parts of West Bengal. At least 33 people have so far died in the State affected by mosquito borne diseases which include malaria, dengue fever etc.
Kolkatta alone reports 25 related deaths caused by malaria, Japanese encephalitis, meningo encephalitis, viral encephalitis and dengue. Though the municipal corporations are trying to combat the mosquito menace, people are advised with health awareness programmes to deal with the symptoms and preventive measures to be taken to avoid an infection. --MP
Bayern's soccer academy in Kolkatta

Germany's popular soccer club, Bayern Munich is all set to set up a soccer academy in India, that too in Kolkatta. The chief of Bayern Munich has even entered into a MoU with the West BEngal govt on this regard.
"There will be full assistance from the government. We know to prepare an ideal turf will cost three and half crores. We hope to make it soon.", said WB sports minister. The world class academy is set to come up at Burdwan District in Bengal. --MP
CPI(M) caught in Tapasi case

The ruling West Bengal governmnet was caught in an awkward situation with two of its CPI(M) leaders being convicted in the murder case of Tapasi Malik, a teenager who was found murdered at Singur land in 2006.
Tapasi was a party worker of the Trinamool and was against the proposed Nano project. Welcoming the verdict, the main opposition party Trinamool Congress has demanded that the CM should step down and has no moral right to continue in power. Meanwhile the CPI(M) reacting to this has said that it would go for appeal in the HC. --MP

Chinese auto makers visit Bengal

After Tata pulling out of Singur, the West Bengal government is all set to invite other industrialists to the State. Its learnt that a Chinese automobile firm has shown interest in setting up thier car plant in the State. The automakers in a joint venture intent to start a manufacturing unit in WB had visited the State on this regard.
Though the Buddha govt has hinted of exploring alternate options on the Singur site, it is not confirmed where the new projects would come up. --MP

It was a narrow escape for West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya as he survived a landmine attack by suspected Maoist rebels on Sunday.
The land mine operated by remote control exploded after Buddha's car passed the site near Salboni in West Midanapore district. Union Minister Ram Pilas Pasvan and his convoy also passed the same site just minutes before the blast. Though the ministers escaped unhurt one of the pilot cars got damaged in the explosion leaving the driver seriously injured. --MP
