Overruling the Army Chief, Defence minister A K Antony has ordered disciplinary action against four generals for their alleged involvement in the Sukna land scam in West Bengal. This comes following the Army Chief's softened stance towards the alleged senior military secretary also his close aide and principal staff officer to the Army Chief. The 4 are accused to have helped a Siliguri based businessman to set up an educational institution near the Army headquarters at Sukhna in Darjeeling. With the Defence Minister's interference, an order has been directed for initiation of court martial proceedings against the senior general and his 3 subordinates. Incidentally the senior general is due for retirement this month end.
