Left control over education in Bengal
By Comingofangels on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 - 04:31 am: Edit PostIt is understood from newspaper reports that the Central Government is inclined on pumping in approximately Rs. 1200 for upgrading facilities at Jadavpur University and Bengal Engineering College and eventually accord them the status of IITs, only if the West Bengal Govt. and Alimuddin Street is willing to loosen its grip over the educational institutions. The question is - what is this pressing need to the CPIM to retain its control over educational institutions in the state (they already have far reaching control over the states academic curriculum). A bigger question is that what do these institutions and the students gain from State control. It is also heard that the state govt. has refused to give up such control, which may prove to be a hinderance in furthering the cause of these treasured educational institutions already stifled with lack of operational funds as the impoverished state exchequer does not even have the remote chance to come to its resque. Our urge to the state Govt is "Please give education a change".
